Hasbro phasing out Plastic from their packaging

Just this week, Hasbro made an announcement to phasing out all plastics on their toys and game package by the end of 2022.

The  Brian Goldner, Chairman and CEO said, "Hasbro Removing Plastic from our packaging is the latest advancement in our more than decade-long journey to create a more sustainable future for our business and our world".

It is interesting to note that Hasbro only mention apply this move on Transformers, Baby alive, Nerf, Magic the Gathering, Monoploy, My Little Pony and Play-Doh. What about other series from Hasbro like Disney, Marvel and Starwars? No mention on that. Maybe the decision is on Hasbro own product line.

“We’ll do it in a number of different ways, from redesigning packages, to just taking out the plastic, in some cases replacing it with another material,” Frascotti said. “With things like poly bags and elastic bands and shrink wraps, there are other ways to secure the product in the packaging and protect the product,” he said.

That would mean Hasbro will think of new way to do their packaging to keep the toy presentation , strong enough to stand on during shipping and retail.

Here is one example of a Hasbro Transformers Generation series which I open recently and after close to a decade and you have to see how packaging do affect toy collector.

On the whole, I am supportive on this move if that would mean making the product more affordable and friendly to the environment. We certainly would enjoy lesser plastic with more recyclable one.

What your thoughts on this? Would other toy maker follow as well like in Japan?
